Short answer

For an immigration administrative review barrister quote, send the refusal or cancellation decision, the date received, the route applied under, the original application and supporting evidence, any administrative review deadline stated in the decision, and a short note identifying why you say the decision contains an error.

Quick checklist

Start with these

Decision letter and date received
Immigration route and application form
Original supporting evidence
Deadline and online review details
Short list of alleged errors

Check The Decision Letter First

Administrative review is only available for eligible decisions. The decision letter is usually the starting point because it should explain whether review or appeal rights are available and the deadline that applies.

  • Full decision letter, refusal reasons and any administrative review instructions.
  • Date and method of service or receipt.
  • Immigration route, application reference and Home Office or UKVI account details.
  • Any waiver, withdrawal, passport return or travel issue that may affect the review.

Original Application Documents

Administrative review normally focuses on whether the decision was wrong because of an eligible error. The original application pack and evidence are therefore central.

  • Application form, certificate of sponsorship or CAS where relevant.
  • Documents uploaded or submitted with the original application.
  • Payment, biometric and appointment records.
  • Sponsor, employer, education, relationship, finance or accommodation documents relevant to the route.

Identify The Error Clearly

A barrister can review whether alleged errors are arguable, but the first enquiry should identify the point as clearly as possible. Avoid sending only a general complaint that the outcome feels unfair.

  • Rule or policy point you believe was misapplied.
  • Evidence you say was overlooked or misunderstood.
  • Mistake in dates, identity, sponsorship, finance, documents or route requirements.
  • Any new evidence issue, noting that administrative review may restrict what new material can be considered.

Important Cautions

Immigration deadlines and routes are sensitive and can change. This guide is general information only, not advice about eligibility for administrative review, appeal rights, judicial review or a fresh application.

Do not assume administrative review is the correct route. Use the decision letter and get case-specific advice quickly where a deadline is close.

Source/review note: GOV.UK administrative review pages and Home Office caseworker guidance were reviewed in August 2026. Legal review is recommended before publishing route eligibility, deadline or new-evidence wording because immigration rules and guidance change frequently.

Editorial status: source and legal review required. No completed legal review is claimed.

Immigration Administrative Review Barrister Documents Guide FAQs

Is administrative review the same as an appeal?

No. Administrative review is a review of an eligible decision for certain errors. Some decisions may instead carry appeal rights or require another route.

Can I send new evidence?

New evidence may be restricted in administrative review. Include the original evidence and ask for case-specific advice before relying on new material.

Can a barrister draft administrative review grounds?

A barrister may advise on or draft grounds where the decision, evidence, deadline and scope are clear and Direct Access is suitable.
