About Us

Barristers 4U

Barristers4U helps members of the public and businesses request quotes from suitable Direct Access barristers in England and Wales. Any legal advice, representation, scope and fee must be agreed directly with the barrister or chambers.

Many people are unaware that, in suitable cases, they can ask a Direct Access barrister about advice or representation without first instructing a solicitor. The barrister or chambers will confirm whether the matter is suitable and what fee applies.

Direct Access is also known as Public Access. Barristers who accept Public Access work are independently regulated by the Bar Standards Board, and not every matter will be suitable for direct instruction.

Our role is to collect the practical information that helps an enquiry be reviewed: the area of law, location, urgency, hearing dates, documents and the type of help needed.

We do not provide legal advice through this website. We help prepare and route quote requests so a barrister or chambers can decide whether they are able to assist.

The process is designed to make scope, documents and fee discussions clearer before you decide whether to proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you provide legal advice or representation?
Yes. We have access to 1,000 Barristers at 210 different chambers in England & Wales. We can compare them for you. If you have a particular budget we will try to get you legal representation to fit that budget.
  • What can a Barrister do for me?
Barristers can provide expert legal opinion and advice, draft legal documents, attend Court as your advocate, and represent you at a Mediation or Arbitration. Barristers are experts in the law and provide a high level of skill when advocacy is required to present your case in a Court or Tribunal. Most Barristers do not conduct litigation but, if needed, Barristers4U can provide those who are now approved to do so by the Bar Standards Board. We can advise who is best placed to help you once we have reviewed your enquiry.
  • How cheap is cheap?
Many barristers can quote a fixed fee for clearly defined work, or explain what information is needed before a fee can be confirmed. All fees, scope and payment terms should be agreed with the barrister or chambers before work begins.
  • How quickly can legal proceedings begin?
Before working with a barrister tell us the date you wish to start legal proceedings or let us know when you need representing and we will make sure we get an experienced barrister by your side ready for the legal proceedings.
